Alvin Kamara signs $24.5M extension with chance to end career with Saints in view

Alvin Kamara and the Saints on Tuesday came to terms on a two-year contract extension worth $24.5 million, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

The deal keeps Kamara under contract through 2026 and likely would put him in the position to retire as a member of the Saints, the franchise he has spent the entirety of his career playing for.

As part of the deal, $22 million is guaranteed and there is $1.5 million worth of incentives as well, according to the report.

Kamara had expressed a desire to be compensated at the going rate for elite NFL running backs and had left mandatory minicamp early in protest for a new contract.

Nevertheless, he had remained committed to being a Saint for the long term.

“I’ve said it before: I want to be a Saint,” Kamara said in July according to NFL Network. “You know what I’m saying? I want to retire here. If I gotta play football somewhere else, I’ll probably be somewhere with my feet kicked up in Africa somewhere, or something like that.”

Kamara has shown that he’s worth the price tag that he was asking for this season, putting up 438 rushing yards and six touchdowns along with 252 yards receiving and a receiving TD.

Over the course of his eight years in the NFL, Kamara has amassed 6,267 rushing yards and 60 touchdowns all while spending his entire career in NOLA.
