Georgia QB Carson Beck entering NCAA transfer portal: Report

Ian Casselberry

Georgia quarterback Carson Beck is expected to enter the NCAA transfer portal, according to multiple reports.

Beck, 23, previously announced that he was declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft, but he apparently wants to play one more college season. He threw for 3,485 yards, 28 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, completing 64.7% of his passes for the 11–3 Bulldogs.

His 2024 campaign ended in the SEC championship game when he was injured on a sack just before halftime. Beck did not play in the second half, except for the final play when he handed off to Trevor Etienne for the game-winning touchdown in Georgia’s 22–19 win over Texas.

Beck was eventually diagnosed with a torn UCL in his right elbow, sidelining him for the rest of Georgia’s season, which ended in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals with a 23–10 loss to Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl. Surgery to repair the injury will prevent Beck from throwing for NFL teams, which would likely affect his draft status.

According to ESPN, Miami is the favorite to land Beck for the 2025 season and a decision on his future should come within a week. The Hurricanes are in need of a QB after Cam Ward used his final season of eligibility in 2024 and became a Heisman finalist during his lone season in South Florida.

Like Beck has done, Ward announced that he was entering the 2024 NFL Draft before reversing course and entering the transfer portal to use his final season of eligibility. Ward spent two seasons at Washington State after transferring from FCS school Incarnate Word.

Gunner Stockton replaced Beck in the SEC title game and the CFP matchup with the Fighting Irish. Stockton will be a junior next season and will likely compete with sophomore Ryan Puglisi for the starting QB position.

A two-year starter for the Bulldogs, Beck took over for Stetson Bennett after Georgia won two consecutive national championships. During those two seasons, Beck completed 68% of his passes for 7,426 yards and 52 touchdowns in 27 games.
