Kanye West Silent On Instagram As ‘Donda 2’ Album Doesn’t Drop

Must Read

Kanye West remained silent on Instagram Tuesday, when his 11th studio album Donda 2 was supposed to be released, despite the social media platform serving as the rapper’s choice communication device in recent weeks as he’s sent out unpredictable, rapid-fire posts about his new music and his estranged wife Kim Kardashian West.

Key Facts

West announced last month that Donda 2 would be released on Tuesday, though any mention of the date has since been deleted from his Instagram.

Almost every post has been deleted from West’s page, except two which promote his $200 “stem player” device, a handheld music player that allows users to manipulate a song’s sounds and the only platform Donda 2 will be available on, West said last week.

West started selling the stem players last year, and users who already have one will be able to upload the new album from West’s website onto the device.

Though the album hasn’t been released yet, tickets for Tuesday night’s live listening party for the Donda 2 from Miami, IMAX Presents Kanye West: Donda Experience Performance 2 22 22, are being sold at IMAX theaters around the country.

The listening party, being held at loanDepot Park Stadium, is still set to be streamed to IMAX theaters at 9 p.m. EST, and on, according to the devices’ verified Instagram account.

Big Number
$1.3 million. That’s how much money West claimed to have made last week in sales for the stem player in the 24-hours after he announced Donda 2 would not be available on streaming services like Spotify or Apple Music. In a since-deleted Instagram post, West claimed to have turned down a “hundred million dollar” deal with Apple to release the album on his own device.

Key Background
The stem players, which allow users to manipulate different aspects of a song, like its bass or the vocals, can be loaded with any music, not just West’s. The rapper, who legally changed his name to Ye in October, is known for working on his albums until the moment they come out, and usually delays his releases by weeks and sometimes changes the works after they’ve been published. Last summer, West announced several release dates for his album Donda before it was ultimately launched in August. The rapper held several listening parties for the album, live shows in which he and sometimes other artists featured on the album performed, or just listened to the new music, as a live crowd heard the songs for the first time, which were all streamed on Apple Music.

West has used his Instagram account over the last few weeks to post his reaction to his estranged wife Kim Kardashian West’s rumored romance with comedian Pete Davidson and their co-parenting relationship. The rapper has also started feuds on the platform with Kid Cudi and Billie Eilish.
