Mike Reilly leaves ice after hard hit along boards in Islanders injury scare

BUFFALO — Mike Reilly suffered what appeared to be a potentially serious injury after taking a hit from Jordan Greenway midway through the second period of Friday’s game against the Sabres.

Playing the puck along the boards, Reilly was elbowed by Greenway — who had already hurt Alexander Romanov with a hit minutes earlier — and seemed to land on his head.

Mike Reilly was hit hard on the play, which was not penalized.

He did not immediately get up, and the stretcher was brought out.

After a few minutes, Reilly was eventually able to stand up and did not need the stretcher, instead going to the dressing room with the help of Anders Lee and Kyle Palmieri.

Greenway was not given a penalty for the play, which was initially called a five-minute major before being reversed upon review.

Romanov returned to the game after the long stoppage to tend to Reilly, but the Islanders were still down Adam Pelech, who took a puck to the face in between the other two defensemen getting hurt.
