The Yankees declined their 2025 club option for RHP Lou Trivino on Sunday, making the 33-year-old a free agent.
Trivino was acquired by the Yankees at the trade deadline on Aug. 1, 2022 along with pitcher Frankie Montas from the Oakland A’s.
He had a 1.66 ERA, 22 strikeouts, and one save in 21.2 innings over 25 appearances with New York during the 2022 season.
Trivino then avoided arbitration by signing a one-year deal with the team in November of that year. He suffered an elbow injury prior to the 2023 season and eventually ended up getting Tommy John surgery in May, causing him to miss the entire season.
The right-hander was non-tendered by the team during the 2023-24 offseason, but later agreed to a one-year, $1.5 million deal with a $5 million club option for 2025 ahead of the 2024 season.
Trivino never pitched for the Yankees during the year, as he stayed in the minors and split time between Double-A Somerset and Triple-A Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre. He owned a 4.91 ERA over 11 appearances in the minors, recording 11 strikeouts over 11.0 IP.
