Jordan Spieth had two eagle hole-outs, one double, two birdies and two bogeys Thursday at The Players — over his first nine holes on the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass.
His second nine was far more mundane and he finished with a 2-under 70 to sit four off the early lead.
Spieth began his opening round hitting his approach shot on the par-4 10th to 14 inches. Following a tap-in birdie, he holed his greenside bunker shot for eagle at the par-5 11th.
Spieth then snap-hooked his tee shot into the water at the par-4 14th on his way to double. He followed that with a bogey at No. 15, before rebounding with another hole-out eagle at the par-5 16th.
After safely hitting the green at the par-3 17th, Spieth promptly three-putted from 54 feet for bogey. And in true Spieth fashion, responded by hitting his approach shot to 4 feet at the par-4 18th.
