Former Grizzlies White, Harris drafted to CFL

Former Montana wide out Keelan White has a new home in Ottawa as the Redblacks selected him third overall in the Canadian Football League draft Tuesday.

White, eligible for the CFL draft as a native of North Vancouver, B.C., was selected behind Utah receiver Damian Alford (Calgary) and University of Windsor linebacker Devin Veresuk (Hamilton).

Former Griz DE Hayden Harris joined White on the draft board, being selected in the second round by the BC Lions at 11th overall. Harris signed with the Buffalo Bills after going unselected in the NFL draft over the weekend.

White was a projected first round selection in the CFL with some projecting him as high as first overall to the Calgary Stampeders. Calgary is coached by former Montana quarterback Dave Dickenson, who led the Grizzlies to their first NCAA title in 1995. Dickenson also holds the General Manager title with the Stampeders.

Also selected Tuesday during the CFL’s global draft was Weber State DL Kemari Munier-Bailey (2nd overall to Winnipeg) and Idaho State K/P Ross Bolger (4th overall to the BC Lions). Munier-Bailey hails originally from Great Britain, while Bolger came to Pocatello by way of Ireland.

White and the Redblacks get to work right away as the CFL regular season kicks off on Thursday, June 5 with Ottawa taking on Saskatchewan at 7 p.m. in Regina. BC opens its season at Edmonton on June 7.
