Israeli boat drifts from Cyprus, rescued by Israeli Navy near Lebanon

A rare incident occurred at sea on Thursday night when a group of Israelis sailing from Cyprus to Israel became stranded after experiencing engine failure. Believing they were off the coast of Haifa, the passengers were surprised to discover they were actually drifting near the shores of Lebanon.

Israeli Navy Flotilla 3 (Shayetet 3), led by the missile ship INS Eilat, was dispatched to the area. Forces successfully established contact with the passengers and carried out a rescue operation, ultimately bringing them safely back to the Port of Haifa.

Since the launch of Operation “Rising Lion” and the outbreak of war with Iran, tens of thousands of Israelis have been stranded abroad due to the closure of Israeli airspace. Thousands have already returned to the country via flights operated by Israeli airlines or organized sea voyages, most of them departing from Cyprus.
