‘Mirzapur’ Star Ali Fazal to Lead Prime Video Crime Thriller ‘Raakh’ Alongside Sonali Bendre and Aamir Bashir (EXCLUSIVE)

Ali Fazal (“Mirzapur“) is set to headline Prime Video‘s upcoming Indian investigative crime thriller “Raakh,” alongside Sonali Bendre (“The Broken News”) and Aamir Bashir (“Tiger 3”).

The series, produced by EndemolShine India and Gulbadan Talkies, will be executive produced and directed by Prosit Roy (“Paatal Lok”), with Anusha Nandakumar (“Singham Again”) and Sandeep Saket (“Indian Police Force”) serving as creators, writers and co-directors. Ayush Trivedi (“Indian Police Force”) is handling dialogue duties for the project, which is slated to premiere in 2026.

“At Prime Video, we want to continue pushing the boundaries of traditional storytelling and bring nuanced narratives to our customers,” said Nikhil Madhok, director and head of originals at Prime Video India. “At the surface ‘Raakh’ is a thriller replete with unexpected turns and high stakes drama. However, at the core this is a highly emotional story that will stay with audiences long after they have finished watching it.”

Madhok added that the series represents “one of the most powerful stories we have told on Prime Video” and praised the casting of Fazal, Bendre and Bashir for bringing “this high-stakes world created by Anusha Nandakumar and Sandeep Saket to life.”

The series marks a significant project for Fazal, who has built an international profile through roles in films like “Victoria & Abdul” and “Death on the Nile,” as well as smash hit Prime Video series “Mirzapur.”

Rishi Negi, group chief operating officer at Banijay Asia and EndemolShine India, positioned the series as more than a conventional crime thriller, describing it as “a layered, character-driven story that challenges the boundaries of morality, justice, and consequence.”

“The series reflects the evolving appetite of Indian and global audiences for narratives that are both emotionally complex and genre-forward,” Negi said. “We’re thrilled to collaborate with Prime Video to bring this ambitious, emotionally charged narrative to audiences across the globe.”

Director Prosit Roy emphasized the series’ thematic ambitions, calling “Raakh” a “deeply immersive world that pushes boundaries while exploring the complex layers of human nature.”

“Anusha and Sandeep have crafted a narrative that delves into the grey areas of morality, justice, and redemption, all while keeping viewers thoroughly engaged,” Roy said. “For me, the series represents a bold step forward in Indian storytelling, blending intense drama with nuanced character studies.”

The project continues Prime Video’s expansion of its Indian originals slate, which includes series like “Paatal Lok,” “Panchayat,” “Mirzapur,” “The Family Man,” and “Made in Heaven,” as well as “Citadel: Honey Bunny” and “Dahaad.”
