A makeshift Brazil side burdened by injuries and late drop-outs still showed some of the samba flair we expected to see at Wembley on Saturday. Vinicius Junior might have scored two goals in the first 20 minutes as Brazil created some great chances, and Rodrygo also came close.

Visiting coach Dorival Júnior said that this would be the most exciting day of his life during the pre-match press conference. The successful ‘journeyman’ coach was leading Brazil out as manager for the very first time.

There were plenty of individual moments of quality from both teams during the game but neither side had an extended period of pressure or domination over their opponent. The first-half brought plenty of openings, but no killer blows, as Bellingham showed his effortless quality but Brazil threatened with bags of pace on the counter-attack.

Sávio, who has impressed with Girona this season, made his debut for Brazil, whilst Kobbie Mainoo of Manchester United also earned his first international cap with England. Yet both teenagers were kept in the shadows by another young substitute; 17 year-old Endrick. The striker made his debut against Colombia last year and became the fourth-youngest Brazilian international in history.

Endrick tapped in a rebound from a breakaway Vinicius Junior chance and became the youngest ever player to score at Wembley. The starlet should have bagged a second in stoppage time too, but it wouldn’t matter as the final whistle followed. England 0-1 Brazil at Wembley; the young man’s name written into the record books in what was a positive night for Brazil. Next, they travel to face Spain in Madrid.

Elsewhere; legendary Argentina captain Lionel Messi was absent as his country breezed to a 3-0 victory over El Salvador in Philadelphia. The World Cup winners completely dominated this game and it gave an opportunity for some fringe players to enter the mix.

New Brighton signing Valentín Barco made his international debut from the bench, and his Brighton teammate Facundo Buonanotte also came on in the second half. Manchester United’s Alejandro Garncano played the final 45 minutes too.

The Argentine goal scorers all came from the Premier
PINC
League with Tottenham Hotspurs’ Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso scoring either side of an effort from Enzo Fernández of Chelsea.

Peru were also in action; they defeated Nicaragua 2-0 at home in Lima. The hosts scored both goals in the opening 13 minutes of the match but they will have to defeat far tougher opponents in order to exit what has been a horrible run of form.

Finally, Uruguay faced the Basque country in Bilbao; the old home of their boss Marcelo Bielsa. A Matías Vecino equaliser saw them leave with a 1-1 draw. Uruguay will face Ivory Coast next time out.
