Base Power is an Austin, Texas energy company that sells home battery systems and electricity service together. It was founded in 2023 by Justin Lopas and Zach Dell, and Dell is CEO.
How it works
Base doesn’t just sell you a battery. It designs, manufactures, installs, owns, and operates large home batteries (25–50 kWh lithium iron phosphate systems). It also acts as your electricity retailer. Its plans have transparent per-kWh pricing starting around 9¢, plus delivery fees and an annual membership fee. The battery automatically powers the whole home during outages, and no solar is required.
The company’s software charges the batteries when demand is low and can discharge them to support the grid. That makes a distributed virtual power plant that earns revenue from utilities, which helps keep customer rates down.

Base launched Base Core, a battery built at its Austin factory, in 39.2 kWh or 78.4 kWh (dual unit) configurations. That makes it one of the largest residential systems on the market. Per the CEO, it installs in under an hour, switches over seamlessly, and is built for extreme weather.
Funding and scale
