Ex-Met Amed Rosario agrees to one-year, $1.5M deal with Rays

A former Met has a new home, and it’s in the AL East.

Amed Rosario, who played for the Mets from 2017-2020, signed a $1.5 million, one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday, according to multiple reports.

Rosario can make an additional $500,000 in incentives, according to the AP.

Rosario can play multiple positions, including shortstop, second base and in the outfield.

The 28-year-old spent last season with the Cleveland Guardians and the Los Angeles Dodgers, batting .263 with six homers and 58 RBIs in 142 games.

Rosario adds to Tampa Bay’s infield depth behind shortstop José Caballero, acquired in a January trade with the Seattle Mariners, and second baseman Brandon Lowe.

Rosario — who is a .272 hitter with 60 homers and 334 RBIs in 839 career games — began his career with the Mets in 2017.

His best season as a pro came in 2019 with the Mets when he set career highs with a .287 batting average, 15 homers and 72 RBIs.

Rosario was traded to Cleveland in January 2021 as part of a multiplayer package for Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco.

In 2022, Rosario led the majors with nine triples with Cleveland.
