Alongside Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid is interested in signing another current Paris Saint-Germain star as a free agent when his contract expires according to AS , which cited anonymous sources.

Born in the Spanish capital in 1998, Achraf Hakimi came through Madrid’s La Fabrica academy and spent just a single season in the first team.

That was the 2017/2018 campaign which made him a Champions League winner, but with Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez in his way, Hakimi was sent out on loan to Borussia Dortmund in the summer of the latter year.

Then in 2020, Inter Milan bought the Moroccan permanently for a fee of around $43 million (€40 million) according to Goal .

The 25-year-old similarly spent only one term at the San Siro, and impressed when helping the Nerazzurri lift its first Serie A Scudetto since the famous treble-winning tenure of Jose Mourinho in 2009/20210.

PSG swiftly came in for Hakimi, with The Guardian reporting that the Qatar-backed Ligue 1 behemoths agreed to pay Inter an initial $65 million (€60 million) with a further $12 million (€11 million) possibly due in add-ons.

Hakimi penned a five-year deal at the Parc des Princes which expires in 2026. And according to AS, Madrid is one of several clubs interested in him acquiring him for free if he lets it wind down.

The right back position will need reinforcing in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad in the coming years, especially when considering that Vazquez himself will be out of contract this summer and 32-year-old Dani Carvajal follows suit in 2025.

Like fellow veteran Toni Kroos, Carvajal is having a great season as Madrid leads La Liga but will need succeeding at some point.

Madrid could offer the Spain international a one-year extension and take things 12 months at a time as seen with Kroos and Luka Modric. Meanwhile, Hakimi returns to the Bernabeu in 2026 to finally claim a permanent position on the back line.

In landing Hakimi as a free agent, Madrid would once more get one over on continental rivals PSG, who look set to lose Kylian Mbappe to Los Merengues in the coming months.

According to MARCA , Mbappe has already signed a half-decade contract with Madrid president Florentino Perez.

Though reports are starting to emerge on Hakimi possibly leaving PSG in 2024, AS explains that he has no plans to move on in June this year and intends to see out his whole PSG deal.

PSG also wants to open talks about Hakimi extending, but hasn’t managed to get the player’s camp to sit down at the negotiation table yet.
