Starring Lindsay Lohan, Irish Wish follows in the footsteps of the many “travel” romantic comedies from Netflix that have come before it. It’s also the second Netflix original to star Lohan, with the first being 2022’s Falling For Christmas, which many viewed as Lohan’s comeback to film. The film was a hit for Netflix, and the streamer signed Lohan on for two more original movies. The first of those, Irish Wish, released on the streaming service today, just in time for St. Patrick’s Day.
Directed by Janeen Damian, with a script by Kirsten Hansen, Irish Wish stars Lohan as a literary editor named Maddie, who is in love with one of her authors: The dreamy and successful Paul Kennedy (Alexander Vlahos). Unfortunately, Maddie’s love is unrequited. Not only that, but she accidentally introduces Paul to her friend Emma (Elizabeth Tan), and they fall in love. Now Maddie is forced to attend their wedding in Ireland, wishing she were the bride instead. But maybe a little bit of Irish magic can help her out.
Lohan may be the lead of Irish Wish, but the real star of the film is the country of Ireland itself. Read on to learn more about the Irish Wish filming locations in Ireland.
Where was Irish Wish on Netflix filmed?
Irish Wish was filmed on location in Ireland. More specifically, the Irish Wish filming locations included Dublin, Wicklow, Westport, and Knock Airport, according to a report from Irish Independent in 2022. And of course, a key part of the movie was those romantic scenes shot at Ireland’s Cliffs of Moher, a gorgeous natural phenomenon on the west coast of the country, which attracts tourists from around the world.
For most of the shoot, the cast and crew camped out in Dalkey, a seaside Irish city just outside of Dublin. In an interview for the Irish Wish press notes, Lohan reminisced about her time in the homeland of her ancestors. “It is so beautiful and I had never been there. My grandfather is from Ireland and it was an amazing experience to be there,” she said.
That said, it wasn’t all a walk in the park. “I learned that Ireland can have all four seasons in one day,” she joked. In addition to Dalkey, Lohan said, “we also went to a beautiful area called Newgrange as well and it was such a great experience. It made me want to explore my Irish heritage more and go back to Ireland one day with my whole family!” Newgrange, for the uninitiated, is a world heritage site best known for its ancient, Stone Age monument and gorgeous rolling fields.
Lohan’s cast mate, English actor Ed Speleers, said in the same interview for the press notes interview that his personal favorite part of shooting in Ireland was “getting the opportunity to explore Wicklow. I’d often find myself with a morning to go off trail running and discover some of the stunning countryside. Two of my favourite runs were Glendalough and running up Djouce mountain, then heading back to the coast for a decent bit of grub at the excellent Happy Pear in Greystones.”
