While Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos lead Live with Kelly and Mark every morning, a new star of the show took over a portion of this morning’s episode.
It all began after contestant Camilla Simpson from Bowling Green, Kentucky tried their hand at outsmarting Consuelos on “Stump Mark.” The two co-hosts then welcomed their daily trivia dancer, who was selected from the studio audience. This morning, Kevin from Dallas, Texas busted a move to Dua Lipa‘s “Dance the Night Away,” and even took it upon himself to do so with no shoes on.
Once Kevin finished, Ripa and Consuelos praised his moves, but the latter chimed in, “Hey, Kevin. You felt you had to take your shoes off for that one, yeah?”
Kevin replied, “When you’re on Kelly and Mark, you have to go for it!”
Eventually, Ripa called upon Simpson to “pick a number between 1 and 159,” which would ultimately select an audience member to win a Roomba vacuum from iRobot.
Once Simpson selected 1, Ripa and Consuelos looked around the audience to identify the winner. Little did they know it was someone who was already up onstage with them: Kevin, the trivia dancer.
After discovering Kevin was the winner, Consuelos brought him over to the host desk. However, Kevin looked hesitant, as he giggled, pointed toward the audience, and covered his mouth.
Consuelos said, “You never have to vacuum again!”
Ripa added, “It’s an embarrassment of riches, isn’t it?”
Kevin then confessed that “what’s really embarrassing” was that he switched numbers with a woman in the audience.
“No one ever picks 1!” he argued.
Consuelos and Ripa noted that they saw the scorned audience member “put her head down” once the lucky number was called, and that they were initially under the impression that she had won. After the camera panned to the woman, they questioned Kevin about what he planned to do now and why he opted to switch with her in the first place.
Kevin reiterated, “No one ever picks 1! And I thought, you know, that’s fine.”
However, the woman had a different story, claiming that “he asked” to switch with her.
Ripa quipped to Kevin, “You might be a monster,” to which he replied, “This is why I’m in a real moral dilemma.”
Kevin eventually exited the stage, and Ripa summed up the encounter as “so dramatic.”
“The drama of this show!” she exclaimed. “This show has drama like a soap opera.”
While Consuelos deemed it “a rollercoaster [in] the first twenty minutes,” Ripa added, “Laughter, tears, you name it! This woman got totally screwed!”
