President Donald Trump said on September 13 that he would remove U.S. tariffs on Irish whiskey, speaking at the Irish Open golf tournament at his resort in Doonbeg, County Clare.
Irish whiskey currently faces a 10% tariff, which was cut from 15% in July. Trump credited Taoiseach Micheál Martin and golfer Shane Lowry with raising the issue with him.
Trump did not say when the change would take effect, and no formal order had been published at the time. Scotch whisky from the United Kingdom received similar relief in April.
