“Rubio Announces Trump’s Likely Visit to India in the Upcoming Year”

Here’s the latest on this story:

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed to IANS at the White House that President Trump is expected to visit India in early 2027, as the two countries move closer to finalizing a long-awaited bilateral trade deal. Rubio said he plans to travel to India himself before the end of 2026 to lay the groundwork for the presidential visit. “I look forward to returning myself before the end of the year and setting up a Presidential visit in the early parts of next year,” he said.

On the trade front, Rubio struck an optimistic tone, saying both sides are on the “last inches” of clinching a deal: “We’re hoping to finalise a trade deal. We’re on the last inches of getting it done, and it’s very positive.”

Rubio also described the India–US relationship as exceptionally strong, noting: “India is such a close partner and ally of the United States, and the relationship between the Prime Minister and the President couldn’t be closer.”

Rubio additionally mentioned that Washington is looking forward to another Quad leaders’ meeting in the near future, saying, “We look forward to re-engaging again in another Quad meeting very soon.”

Trump’s last visit to India was in February 2020, when he and PM Modi jointly addressed the “Namaste Trump” rally in Ahmedabad before holding talks in New Delhi. A 2027 visit would mark his first trip to India since returning to office.
