Here’s a detailed breakdown of the most recent U.S. attacks on Iran:
🇺🇸 U.S. Attacks on Iran — Latest Updates (June 2026)
How It Started (Feb. 28, 2026)
The war began on February 28, 2026, when U.S. and Israeli forces launched nearly 900 strikes in 12 hours targeting Iranian missiles, air defenses, military infrastructure, and leadership — killing Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and dozens of other officials.
Most Recent U.S. Strikes (June 26–27)
The U.S. military struck multiple targets in Iran at the direction of President Trump on Saturday, June 27, in response to what CENTCOM called “continued Iranian aggression against commercial shipping.”
It was the second day in a row the U.S. launched strikes on Iran. CENTCOM said the attacks came “at the Commander in Chief’s direction” in direct response to Iranian aggression against commercial shipping.
What triggered it: U.S. aircraft struck Iranian missile and drone storage locations and coastal radar sites after Iran’s drone hit the Ever Lovely, a Singapore-flagged cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM said Iran’s behavior “undermined freedom of navigation as commerce increasingly flows through the vital international trade corridor.”
Then, following a second attack on the oil tanker Kiku on Saturday morning carrying more than 2 million barrels of crude oil, CENTCOM stated that “Iran was given a chance to honor the ceasefire agreement but elected not to.”
Trump’s Warnings
Trump wrote on Truth Social: “United States aircraft just struck Iranian missile and drone storage locations, and coastal radar sites, for violating the Cease Fire Agreement, AGAIN!” He ended with a stark threat: “There may come a point when we are no longer able to be reasonable, and will be forced to militarily complete the job that we very successfully started. If that happens, the Islamic Republic of Iran will no longer exist!”
Iran’s Response
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) struck U.S. military sites in Kuwait and Bahrain in response to the American strikes. The IRGC also threatened a complete halt to all diplomatic negotiations if Washington continued its attacks.
Ceasefire on the Brink
A June 17 memorandum of understanding between the U.S. and Iran had called for the “immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts.” Both sides have now accused the other of violating the deal, leaving its future in serious doubt.
As of today, the U.S. and Iran have agreed to halt attacks and meet in Qatar on Tuesday to try to resolve the Strait of Hormuz dispute. Whether that holds remains the key question.
